Forgive me for being a little behind in getting to these Pre-Fall collection reviews, but…I have no excuses.
I love it when designers describe the inspiration behind their collections. It’s the only time anyone can say something like “I was thinking of monkeys on meth in the South of France” and I just don’t blink an eye. (When I said stuff like that in school, the reaction was TOOOOTALLY different). So when Zac Posen said his inspiration for his Pre-Fall 2013 collection was “Maria Callas in Argentina” I almost fell out of my chair because it actually made sense. And I love it! FYI: Do NOT attempt to give any monkey meth. Aside from being cruel, the cat will go “Monkey Shines” on you (or as I call it, “Ninja Monkey”)! Besides, Cee and I are very much opposed to animal cruelty which is why I am putting out there that I wish designers would use less leather, because I would actually pay MORE for quality synthetic material.
Anyway, back to the Posen collection, the theme was very much in keeping with a night at the opera. Some pieces, such as this dress constructed from duchesse satin is obviously for when Maria was fighting off paps. Girl knew how to work it.
Much of the collection is chiffon, jacquard, and satin. Now sing after me ”These are a few of my favorite things”. Although Posen’s designs are no departure from what he’s done in the past, what he produces still pleases the eye.

LOVE this collection! I get the inspiration. I see how he applied it.
Maria Callas was a great person from which to draw inspiration!
